These past two years have brought to light a fact that has existed for too long: There are a number of disparities based on the color of one’s skin — including healthcare — and it’s time we finally close those gaps. Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representatives Richard Hudson (R-NC) along with Mike Levin (D-CA), Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), and Sanford Bishop (D-GA) introduced the Military Dependents School Meal Eligibility Act to ensure military families have access to school meal programs.
Today, U.S. Representatives Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), Mike Levin (CA-49), Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05), and Richard Hudson (NC-08) introduced the Military Dependents School Meal Eligibility Act to make it easier for military families to qualify for school meal programs. Nearly one in seven military families report experiencing food insecurity, but many do not qualify for programs like the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP) because service members’ housing allowances are considered income and push them out of eligibility.
