ROCKINGHAM — Individuals involved in the realm of foster care met with U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson, R-Concord, for a roundtable discussion Tuesday at the Richmond County Department of Social Services.

The panel consisted of social workers, foster parents and current and former foster children.

“We’re blessed to have foster parents willing to take kids of all ages,” said Bunny Critcher, program manager for Richmond County Children’s Services. “We can’t do our job without our foster parents.”

Concord symposium champions the many roles of women

CONCORD, N.C. -- N.C. Secretary of Commerce Sharon Decker had words of affirmation for women business and community leaders during a women’s symposium at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord on Friday.

Eighth District U.S. Congressman Richard Hudson and his wife, Renee, hosted the First Annual Women’s Symposium as “an opportunity to bring women together,” he said.

WASHINGTON -- Annoyed by excessive airline fees? There could be relief in sight thanks, in part, to new legislation introduced in Congress by a North Carolina lawmaker.

The $5 Transportation Security Agency fee you pay on each leg of a flight would be capped under new legislation co-sponsored by Republican Congressman Richard Hudson.

On Wednesday, the House passed the legislation unanimously. The vote tally was 423 to 0.

The chairman of the House's transportation security subcommittee said Thursday that the federal government's controversial "no-fly" terrorist watch list is "crucial" to protecting international flights to the U.S. in the face of threats from the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

House passes bill to limit TSA airline security fees

The House on Wednesday passed legislation to limit airline passenger security fees imposed by the Transportation Security Administration.

Passed 423-0, the measure would only allow the TSA to charge $5.60 per one-way trip and $11.20 per round trip.

Rep. Richard Hudson (R-N.C.), the bill's sponsor, said it was necessary because the TSA had misinterpreted the increase on airline security fees outlined by the 2013 budget agreement by charging more than twice the amount for round trips as for one-way trips.

House votes to cap TSA fee

WASHINGTON -- The House voted Wednesday to cap a Transportation Security Administration fee on airline tickets to prevent the agency from collecting an estimated $60 million per year more than lawmakers intended.

The Senate must still consider the bill. But the House goal, approved on a 423-0 vote, is to cap the fee at $5.60 per flight and $11.20 per connecting flight. The previous fee had been $2.50 per flight capped at $5 for connecting flights.

Congress ordered the new fee to reduce the deficit $12.6 billion over the next decade.
