Spencer, NC (WBTV) - On Wednesday, U.S. Representatives Richard Hudson (NC-08) and Ted Budd (NC-13) met with Spencer Mayor Jim Gobbel to discuss economic development and afterwards toured the North Carolina Transportation Museum.

SPENCER — Two congressmen will be in town today for a meeting with Mayor Jim Gobbel and a tour of the N.C. Transportation Museum.
Reps. Ted Budd, R-13, and Richard Hudson, R-8, are scheduled to tour the Transportation Museum at 11:30 a.m. and meet with Gobbel afterward to discuss economic development. Each congressmen represents part of Spencer in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Sen. John McCain is commending President Donald Trump's strategy for Afghanistan and says the president needs to start conducting himself as a "wartime commander in chief." The Arizona Republican says in a statement that while the plan is long overdue, it moves the United States well past the Obama administration's "failed strategy of merely postponing defeat" in Afghanistan.

SALISBURY — U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson, R-N.C., left the Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury on Thursday encouraged that the hospital is addressing shortcomings cited in a recent inspection report.

“I was really pleased with what I heard today,” Hudson said. “There was a lot of accountability.”

Hudson met with interim Medical Director Linette Baker and the rest of her leadership team to review their response to a recent VA Office of Inspector General report listing 26 recommendations for improvements.

Hudson discussed improvements to the facility while he was there.

SALISBURY — U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson says there’s still time to pass health care reform before the end of the year, and the U.S. Senate is to blame for failing to do so.
Hudson, a Republican who represents the 8th Congressional District, made his remarks after attending a ceremony at which he received an award for introducing a bill related to emergency medical services. His bill would give paramedics and other EMS workers a standing order to administer narcotics, anti-seizure medications and other controlled substances.

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Veterans groups cheered the passage last week of legislation that would extend the amount of time service members and their families have to use education benefits that are available to them under the GI Bill.

Currently, the GI Bill helps pay for tuition, books and other costs associated with college for service members or their family members for a 15-year window after completing the military.

Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08), the representative of Fort Bragg, released the following statement on the deaths of Specialist Christopher M. Harris of Jackson Springs and Sergeant Jonathon M. Hunter of Columbus, Indiana, both infantrymen assigned to 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division who were killed in an attack in Afghanistan.
