North Carolina lawmakers eulogized their former GOP colleague Howard Coble, who died Tuesday after retiring from the House last year.

Coble, who served for 30 years on Capitol Hill before declining to run for re-election in 2014, died just before midnight Tuesday at a Greensboro hospital, his nephew Ray Coble Jr. said Wednesday. He had been hospitalized since September after treatment for skin cancer and the removal of some lymph nodes, Coble Jr. said.

President Barack Obama used his veto power for the fifth time this week when he rejected a defense authorization bill. In reaction to the veto, North Carolina’s senators and a U.S. House member representing Rowan said Obama was endangering the country’s security.

Shawn Adelsberger and Agility Fuel Systems went shopping more than a year ago and found Rowan County.

Adelsberger, the general manager of Agility’s East Coast headquarters in Salisbury, recalls one particular stop on the shopping trip quite vividly. After all, it’s the spot Agility stopped at to make a $20 million purchase.

Adelsberger and Agility were actively browsing available buildings in multiple counties for an East Coast facility. He stopped on Corporate Center Drive — near Julian Road — in front of group of men in suits.

PEMBROKE — The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina will receive $2.4 million in federal money over the next four years to fund the efforts of a Robeson County partnership aimed at improving educational opportunities for American Indian students in pre-school through high school.

In addition to the tribe, The University of North Carolina at Pembroke, Robeson Community College and the Public Schools of Robeson County will share in the funds being provided through the U.S. Department of Education’s Native Youth Community Projects grant.
