Congressman Richard Hudson (NC-09) joined farmers and agricultural interests from Chatham County and the surrounding area on Thursday, Feb. 8 at Bestfood Cafeteria in Siler City.

In between bites of fried chicken and refills of sweet tea, Hudson talked about the importance of the agriculture industry in North Carolina.

Republican Rep. Greg Murphy (NC-03) is one of several members of Congress from North Carolina to join a letter to state Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey outlining concerns over a steep proposed rate hike of 42.2% for homeowners’ insurance in the state and urging Causey to reject it.

Federal Reserve Chair System board of governors chair Jerome Powell noted during an interview for "60 Minutes" that in the long term, the government is on an "unsustainable fiscal path," which he explained "means that the debt is growing faster than the economy."

Interviewer Scott Pelley suggested that Powell is worried about the issue.

"Over the long run, of course it does," Powell said, acknowledging his concern. He noted that "effectively we're borrowing from future generations."

WASHINGTON — Most of North Carolina’s congressional delegation is asking Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey to reject a request that would significantly raise homeowners’ insurance rates across the state — and even higher in coastal counties.

U.S. Rep. Greg Murphy, joined by Rep. Richard Hudson and several other members of Congress, sent a joint letter to Causey on Friday asking the commissioner to reject the request from the N.C. Rate Bureau to raise rates an average of 42%.

At a time of continued inflation, Congressman Richard Hudson joined the North Carolina Congressional Delegation in urging N.C. Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey to reject the proposed increases in homeowner insurance rates.

In Harnett County, insurance companies with the North Carolina Rate Bureau are asking for an increase of 39.9% in rates. In Johnston County, the proposed increase is listed at 40.8%. Homeowners in Sampson and Cumberland counties are looking at a 45.5% increase.
