Whether $86.2 million in military construction projects at Fort Bragg are subject to funding cuts or being diverted to support President Donald Trump’s emergency declaration and border wall remains to be determined.

Last month, the Pentagon released a list of more than $12.8 billion worth of military construction projects that officials are reviewing to determine which ones are eligible to potentially fund portion’s of a wall at the southern border.

Capt. Jacob Riffe was traveling on Interstate 95 last April when he noticed a vehicle swerve and crash into a fence.

Riffe, a soldier with the 264th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 3rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command, said his training kicked in as he pulled his vehicle over and rushed to help the occupants.

For his efforts, Riffe was awarded the Soldier's Medal for heroism on March 22 by U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson during a ceremony at Fort Bragg.

The medal is the Army's highest award for heroism outside of combat.

FORT BRAGG, N.C. (WNCN) – A total of 3,000 soldiers from the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division will deploy this summer to Afghanistan, officials said.

Rep. Richard Hudson confirmed the deployment and released a statement that read:

“The 82nd Airborne Division is absolutely vital to our national security,” said Hudson. “With gratitude, Renee and I will continue to pray for these world-class soldiers and their families who sacrifice so much.”

The deployment is part of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — More than 3,000 Fort Bragg personnel are deploying to Afghanistan this summer.

Fort Bragg officials said Friday that the members of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team with the 82nd Airborne Division will deploy this summer to support the United States’ commitment of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.

The Department of the Army announced Friday that the Fort Bragg-based 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division will be in the summer rotation to Afghanistan.

The 3rd Brigade Combat Team will replace the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, as part of a regular rotation of forces in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel, Army officials said.
