RALEIGH — The U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 2758 on Monday, the latest bill designed to give full federal recognition to the Lumbee Indian Tribe in southeastern North Carolina.
Eight of the state’s 13 representatives sponsored the bill, which passed by a 357-59 vote. Sponsoring the bill were Democrats G.K. Butterfield (NC-01), Deborah Ross (NC-02) and David Price (NC-04), as well as Republicans Greg Murphy (NC-03), David Rouzer (NC-07), Richard Hudson (NC-08), Dan Bishop (NC-09) and Ted Budd (NC-13).

He started out as a staffer and now, at 49 years old, he’s hoping to get sent back to the Hill in 2022. He’s promised to work across the aisle, but says it has become more difficult recently.

Hudson was nominated by Steve Foley, president and CEO of Bragg Mutual FCU, who presented Hudson with the award.
NAFCU said it launched the new award this year to thank members of Congress for their support of the credit union industry and efforts to create a healthy legislative and regulatory environment that allows credit unions to thrive.
RAEFORD, N.C. (WTVD) -- Hoke County Sheriff Dr. Hubert Peterkin has died.
A deputy confirmed his death Saturday morning. ABC11 learned that Peterkin, 59, was being treated for cancer but died from complications of surgery.

U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson presented three students from Cabarrus County with the Congressional Award on Thursday at his Concord office.
The Congressional Award is a non-partisan, voluntary and non-competitive award for achieving goals in volunteering, character development, and fitness.
All three Cabarrus recipients received the Silver Award after completing 400 hours of public service and personal improvement.

The $778 billion Department of Defense funding bill that passed the U.S. House of Representatives last month includes a number of measures that could impact the greater Fort Bragg community.
U.S. Rep., Richard Hudson, whose district includes Fort Bragg and about half of Moore County, praised some of the provisions, such as a 2.7 percent pay raise for troops in addition to a basic needs allowance for low-income servicemembers. The legislation would also fund $27.2 million in infrastructure projects at Fort Bragg.
