The House on Wednesday passed legislation to limit airline passenger security fees imposed by the Transportation Security Administration.
Passed 423-0, the measure would only allow the TSA to charge $5.60 per one-way trip and $11.20 per round trip.
Rep. Richard Hudson (R-N.C.), the bill's sponsor, said it was necessary because the TSA had misinterpreted the increase on airline security fees outlined by the 2013 budget agreement by charging more than twice the amount for round trips as for one-way trips.
CONCORD, N.C. — More than 20,000 passengers have flown in and out of Concord Regional Airport since Allegiant Airlines began commercial operations there on Dec. 20 — and now more airlines are looking at the airport, according to the facility’s director.
But before more services can be provided, the airport needs a roughly 40,000-square-foot “ramp,” or parking area for more planes.
The ramp could be used to handle more commercial traffic, but also provide more space for private airplanes.
The House has unanimously passed three bills that aim to bolster security at airports, provide oversight of the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) Office of Inspection, and simplify travel for veterans.
They include H.R. 4802, the Airport Security Enhancement Act of 2014, which was introduced by Homeland Security Subcommittee Chairman Richard Hudson (R-NC). Its goals include improving intergovernmental planning for and communication during security incidents at domestic airports.
