Rep. Hudson Tours Fayetteville VA Medical Center

Fayetteville, NC – Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) issued the following statement after touring the Fayetteville Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) and meeting with officials to follow up on changes made in order to reduce wait times in light of the recent controversies involving scheduling practices at various VA medical centers around the country.

“Given the recent reports of excessive wait times at the Fayetteville VAMC and other facilities across the country, I wanted to see for myself. What I saw was a patient population that is growing faster than the VA is able to handle. While I appreciate the hard work and dedication of the officials and care givers in Fayetteville, there is still much more work to be done within the VA system to ensure that veterans receive the care they deserve. I am determined that Congress does whatever is necessary to correct these practices. These patriots upheld their commitment to serve our country and we owe it to them to uphold our commitment to care for them during and after their service.”

Additionally, Rep. Hudson is a cosponsor of the following bills aimed at reforming these practices, holding the VA accountable for its actions, and providing the resources necessary to carry out its mission:

· H.R. 4810Veterans Access to Care Act

· H.R. 4031The Department of Veterans Affairs Management Accountability Act

· H.R. 3408Injured and Amputee Veterans Bill of Rights

· H.Con.Res.98

· H.R. 4486Military Construction and Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2015
