ICYMI: Highlights from Rep. Hudson’s Eighth-District Tourism Tour
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Last week, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) traveled the district visiting local tourist attractions to meet with stakeholders and discuss the important role that tourism plays in creating jobs and supporting the local economy.
Please see below for highlights and excerpts from the week.
Representatives from the Charlotte Motor Speedway, Great Wolf Lodge, Embassy Suites Resort and Concord Mills Mall met with local leaders and 8th District U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson to ask for his help in their push for road projects including a flyover ramp to improve traffic flow into Concord Mills, pedestrian amenities along Concord Mills Boulevard… “I’ll do whatever it takes to show that there’s a level of support here that other communities may not have,” he said. He can “apply pressure,” using his “behind-the-scenes” experience to promote Concord’s Exit 49 agenda. Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce president Patrick Coughlin said he appreciates Hudson for “putting your money where your mouth is.” “That makes all the difference in the world,” he said. “That’s going to be very important to us in our economic development strategy.” (Tim Reaves, “Exit 49 stakeholders warn against gridlock,” Concord Independent Tribune, 4/23/14)
Hartsell applauded Concord officials for the decision they made 20 years ago to develop the Concord Regional Airport, which continues to grow and is located near The Silverman Group’s new spec buildings… “With these facilities we will have the infrastructure for jobs to come here,” he said. Hudson said the development is a great sign for the future for Cabarrus County. Hudson said one of his proudest moments as a congressman was saving the funding for the Concord Regional Airport control tower, which was threatened by sequestration cuts last year. (Karen Cimino Wilson, “Two new industrial buildings going up in Concord,” Concord Independent Tribune, 4/24/14)
U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson said businesses along the stretch generate nearly $1 billion to the state's economy and he doesn't want that to be stifled… He recently met with business leaders and other stakeholders to talk about plans for infrastructure improvements… Hudson said as the state doles out its federal transportation dollars, he's pushing to get this project high on the priority list. “We're hopeful when they run the numbers and look at this that they'll make this investment,” Hudson said. (Tenikka Smith, “Concord leaders want funding for $14M I-85 improvement project,” WSOC-TV, 4/24/14)
Hudson would like to see North Carolina as an energy source for the rest of the country due to the amount of oil that is located in the state off the coast… “There is plenty of potential for energy just in North Carolina,” Hudson said. Hudson said the utilization of these resources throughout the state and country would create jobs over night while also allowing America to be free from dependence outside fuel resources. Hudson said it would also help in lowering tax rates on fuel… Hudson has been working on a bill known as the Sunset Law that would require an expiration date on temporary government programs and to force Congress oversee the programs that have been created by the federal government.(Amanda Moss, “Lawmakers address energy, fuel tax concerns at business forum,” Richmond Daily Journal, 4/27/14)
