Hudson Votes to Protect Sexual Assault Victims

WASHINGTON- U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) released the following statement after voting in favor of U.S. Representative Jackie Walorski’s (IN-02) Sexual Assault Prevention bill (H.R. 1864).

“The shameful reports on the number of sexual assaults in the military is nothing more than a new look into a culture that has ignored these crimes for too long. As our brave men and women in uniform fight every day to protect our nation from enemies around the world, there is no reason why they should have to worry about enemies within their own ranks. Today’s unanimous vote continues the House’s work of fighting against these outrageous crimes by protecting victims from retaliation and prosecuting perpetrators.”

Over the past year, sexual assault has impacted over 26,000 of our warfighters. Service members will now know that if they are convicted of this crime, they will be prosecuted under the fullest extent of the law.
