Hudson Votes to Hold Lois Lerner in Contempt of Congress
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) released the following statement after supporting a resolution to hold Lois Lerner, Former Director of the Exempt Organizations group at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), in contempt of Congress for her role in the IRS targeting of conservative groups and her refusal to comply with a subpoena issued by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform:
“The facts are very clear that the IRS deliberately targeted conservative groups to delay or in some cases deny their application for tax status in order to advocate their positions. This goes against the very nature of our democracy and is an appalling breach of the public’s trust.
“Ms. Lerner and the Obama Administration have shown a clear disregard for Congress’s responsibility to provide oversight and have stonewalled every attempt to provide basic accountability for this shameful act. As such, the House has been left with no other choice and I am proud to support this resolution to hold Ms. Lerner in contempt. I hope that now the Administration will finally hear the message from the American people, cooperate with Congress, and deliver justice.”
