Hudson Votes for Largest Mandatory Spending Reform in 20 Years
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) released the following statement after the House passed the FY18 Budget and continued progress towards comprehensive, pro-growth tax reform:
“Today’s balanced budget includes the largest mandatory spending reform in 20 years and paves the way for a smaller, more limited government. That’s my aim – to empower the American people, not Washington’s bureaucrats. It prioritizes defense dollars to provide certainty to our military and help guarantee the security of our nation. And it sets the stage for pro-growth tax reform that will cut taxes on working families, simplify the code, and fuel economic growth. While it isn’t perfect, it helps chart a course to restore fiscal responsibility.”
This budget balances within 10 years and produces a $9 billion surplus in 2027. It achieves $6.5 trillion in total deficit reduction over 10 years while strengthening our national defense, reforming government and reining in Washington’s wasteful spending. In addition, it gives reconciliation instructions to 11 House committees to achieve at least $203 billion in mandatory reforms – the largest mandatory spending reform in 20 years.
