Hudson Votes for Jobs, Stronger Customs and Trade Enforcement
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) released the following statement after voting to strengthen customs and trade enforcement while prioritizing jobs:
“By bolstering enforcement of trade laws and getting tough on bad actors like China who try to cheat, today’s legislation will protect our workers and manufacturers while guaranteeing they can compete on a level playing field. We have the best workers in the world here in North Carolina, and I’m committed to protecting eighth district jobs and keeping American textiles successful now and in the future.
“In addition, this measure permanently bans the internet access tax, a common sense move in today’s digital economy that will keep the internet affordable for consumers and businesses and ensure more opportunities for jobs, innovation and commerce.”
Today, the House passed a final agreement that was reached by the Senate and House conference committee on H.R. 644, the Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Act of 2015(link is external). The bipartisan, bicameral trade legislation fosters economic competiveness and promotes job creation by authorizing U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and putting in place effective tools to strengthen trade and customs enforcement and facilitate legal trade and travel.
