June 7, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (R-NC), the House Republican Conference Secretary, joined Newsmax to discuss the STOP II, Secure Every School and Protect Our Nation’s Children Act, legislation he is introducing to improve school safety and mental health.

This week, House Democrats are advancing gun control legislation. Rep. Hudson is leading the House Republican opposition to this agenda, and offering alternative solutions that address the problem.

"I think there absolutely is an opportunity here but, unfortunately, Democrats in the House and the national mainstream media have framed this debate as a choice between two options; either you're for gun control or you want to do nothing and let children continue to die. Its a false choice. There is a third option."

"The Democrats mantra is let’s just do something, while Republicans say, let’s do something that matters."

...

"I've got legislation I'm dropping this week that puts $1 billion towards grants for schools to hire in-school resource officers, $1 billion towards hiring more guidance counselors so we can intervene with children, and $5 billion towards the Stop School Violence Act. [That] is a bill we had signed into law in 2018 that gives money to harden schools, to train for active shooter scenarios, and to train school officials and students on how to identify these children who are troubled."

...

"Gun control doesn't work. If gun control worked, Chicago would be the safest city in America."
