Hudson Supports Trump’s Expulsion of Russian Diplomats, Condemns Russia
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08), a member of the U.S. Helsinki Commission, released the following statement responding to the Trump Administration’s decision to expel Russian diplomats and close a Russian consulate. As a Commissioner, Rep. Hudson has consistently and strongly condemned Russian aggression against Ukraine and other neighboring countries.
“I fully support the White House’s actions in response to Russia’s brazen act in the United Kingdom,” said Rep. Hudson.“Moscow needs to hear the message loud and clear that such provocative activity will have real consequences, and the United States and its friends and allies must stand together in this regard. Putin and his Kremlin regime must stop their efforts to destabilize and bully other countries and live up to Russia’s international obligations and commitments, including under the 1975 Helsinki Final Act.”
At an international gathering of parliamentarians in Vienna, Austria, in February, Commissioner Hudson represented the United States and condemned the Russian Federation’s violation of the principles of the Helsinki Final Act in its aggression against Ukraine and similar actions against other neighbors. He also stressed the connection between this aggressive external behavior and the retreat from democracy and violation of human rights at home. Learn more here.
