Hudson Statement on Stopping Trillion Dollar Deficits

WASHINGTON- U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) released the following statement after voting to require the President to submit a budget to Congress.

“President Obama has run up deficits that top a trillion dollars for four straight years now, and the spending slew is expected to continue. The Congressional Budget Office predicts that government will spend $47.2 trillion over the next 10 years. Add that to a shrinking economy and increasing unemployment, and it’s hard to believe the President has the audacity to bypass submitting a budget to Congress.

“Hardworking Americans produce a budget for their households each week, month, and year. It isn’t too much to expect that lawmakers in Washington do the same and lay out our fiscal plans for the future. The federal government cannot lumber along without plans and expect our economy to grow and return people to the workforce. Our fiscal house is a mess because of a lack of leadership and a tax-and-spend mentality by the President and liberals in the Senate.

“It is unfortunate that we must mandate the White House and Senate to adhere to their budgetary duties as required by law, but the longer a budget is delayed, the more devastating the effects for the American people. We need to focus on creating jobs, investing in our future, and growing our economy. Anything less is simply unacceptable."

Today Rep. Hudson voted for H.R. 444, the Require a PLAN Act, which requires the White House to either produce a balanced budget within a 10-year window or provide a supplemental budget plan by April 1, 2013, that identifies in which fiscal year their plan would achieve balance.
