Hudson Statement on Deactivation of 440th AW
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) released the following statement in response to the Air Force’s announcement to move forward with deactivation of the 440th Airlift Wing located at Fort Bragg’s Pope Airfield following a 90-day waiting period as required by the FY 2016 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA):
“This unit is absolutely critical to conduct the type of training that both Airborne and Special Operations forces located at ‘the epicenter of the universe’ rely on to conduct the high risk missions they’re charged with in combat. I continue to believe that deactivating the 440th could put our national security at risk, and the Air Force has yet to show us any evidence to the contrary. I will continue to work with my North Carolina colleagues to hold the Air Force accountable and ensure our rapid reaction forces are prepared to defend our nation at a moment's notice.”
