Hudson Statement on Budget Agreement that Increases Debt
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) released the following statement after the House passed the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015 (H.R. 1314). Rep. Hudson missed yesterday’s vote to attend his grandfather’s funeral in North Carolina.
“Our country faces enormous debt and economic uncertainty because Washington continues to kick the can down the road and spend too much money. I remain committed to cutting this reckless spending, which is why I do not support this budget deal that tacks on $1.5 trillion to the national debt and spends more of our tax dollars with false promises of savings later. This measure would burden our children and future generations with crippling debt and put our country on a path towards fiscal ruin, and I do not support it.”
H.R. 1314 would increase federal spending by $80 billion over two years and suspend the federal debt limit through 2017, allowing for the accumulation of approximately $1.5 trillion in new federal debt, with total debt at the end of the suspension equaling roughly $19.6 trillion.
