Hudson Statement on Bill that Fails to Address Our Debt Problem

WASHINGTON-U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) released the following statement after voting against a funding bill and debt ceiling increase that fails to address our debt and rein in the harmful effects of Obamacare:

“It astounds me that we find ourselves in the position we’re in today, facing a two-week government shutdown and unprecedented levels of debt,” said Rep. Richard Hudson. “Instead of continuing to kick the can down the road, we need to find long-term solutions that cut wasteful government spending, encourage job creation, and strengthen our economy.”

“I made a promise to the people I represent from North Carolina that I would not support a debt ceiling increase without addressing the underlying spending problem plaguing our federal government. I gave my word that I would bring fiscal responsibility and stability to Washington, and I remain committed to doing just that. Today’s measure fails to address the harmful effects of Obamacare or eliminate special subsidies and exemptions for Members of Congress and the politically connected. We should not and cannot let the President’s health care takeover burden our hard-working families, small businesses, and local communities while granting special treatment to President Obama and his allies.”

“Today’s measure would reopen the government, but it would irresponsibly raise the debt ceiling without any corresponding or proportional spending cuts, negligently ignoring the critical spending issue facing America.”
