Hudson Secures Millions in Funding for NC Military Personnel, Veteran Crisis Line

July 27, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-09) released the following statement on the FY 2024 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies (MilCon-VA) Appropriations bill that was passed in the U.S. House of Representatives:

“As the representative of the largest Army base in the world, making sure our veterans, as well as our troops and their families, get the support they deserve, is among my top priorities,” said Rep. Hudson. “I have fought for years to include this necessary funding that our military community deserves, and I am proud to secure these large wins for our community.”

Funding Rep. Hudson secured in the FY 2024 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill for Fort Liberty, formerly known as Fort Bragg, includes:

  • $36 million for the Department of the Army Child Development Center to improve the existing deficit of Child Development Center spaces which create an unnecessary hardship on soldiers and their families stationed at the installation.
  • $61 million for the Department of the Army Aircraft Maintenance Hangar, which provides permanent facilities and infrastructure to accommodate the operations and maintenance of aircraft serving the U.S. Army Special Operations Command.
  • $150 million for the construction of new Army Barracks
  • $19.5 million for the Department of the Army Automated Record Fire Range
  • Report language regarding the Department of the Army's roadway infrastructure
  • Report language regarding Department of Veterans Affairs Traumatic Brain Injury Program

Earlier this week, all three of Rep. Hudson’s proposed amendments were passed by the House and were included in the final version of the FY24 MilCon-VA legislation:

  • Raises awareness for the need to increase funding towards the veteran suicide prevention efforts, specifically the Veterans Crisis Line
  • Ensures veterans are afforded the same due process that every other American receives before any action is taken that would deprive them of their Second Amendment Rights
  • Prohibits funding for administering, implementing, or enforcing the Biden’s Administrations electrification requirements that would hold up ongoing military construction projects.
