Hudson Releases Statement on U.S. Supreme Court

April 15, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) released the following statement on a proposal announced today to expand the United States Supreme Court:

"Washington Democrats are determined to expand the Supreme Court to enact their agenda which would threaten rights including life and the Second Amendment," said Rep. Hudson. "In 1983, then-Senator Joe Biden called this a "bonehead idea" and "terrible mistake." In 2020, Biden said expansion would, "begin to lose any credibility the court has at all." Former Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said nine was "a good number," and "if anything would make the court appear partisan, it would be that... So I am not at all in favor of that solution.""

"I have cosponsored a constitutional amendment to keep nine justices and will continue to work to protect the integrity of the Supreme Court and our rights," continued Rep. Hudson.

Rep. Hudson is a cosponsor of H.J. Res. 11 sponsored by Rep. Dusty Johnson (R-SD) in the House and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) in the Senate.
