Hudson Releases Statement on U.S. Postal Service

August 21, 2020
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) released the following statement after a hearing today with Postmaster General Louis DeJoy before the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, and ahead of a vote tomorrow in the U.S. House of Representatives on post office legislation:
"Today, the Postmaster General completely debunked the fake Pelosi Post Office scandal. We learned at today's hearing that funding has not been cut to the U.S. Postal Service and there is no great conspiracy to undermine mail delivery. It is essential that every citizen vote in this important election and we must ensure that every vote is counted. The U.S. Postal Service plays a critical role in that and I thank Postmaster General Louis DeJoy for his willingness to take on this job in the first place and for working to make structural improvements to strengthen the Post Office," said Rep. Hudson. "While Speaker Pelosi has called the House back to vote on a bill tomorrow to further these conspiracies, I believe Congress needs to focus on priorities like extending unemployment for those who need it, safely reopening schools, extending student loan relief and helping small businesses still reeling from this pandemic."
On Saturday, August 22, the House will consider the Delivering for America Act. As part of the CARES Act which Rep. Hudson supported for COVID-19 relief, the U.S. Postal Service received $10 billion in funding which has yet to be accessed.
