Hudson Releases Statement on the Recovering America's Wildlife Act

June 14, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (R-NC), co-chair of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus, issued the following statement after today’s vote on the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act (RAWA).

"I cosponsored RAWA to invest in locally-driven conservation work in North Carolina and across our nation that meets our 21st century challenges," said Rep. Hudson.

"After years of working in a bipartisan fashion on how to pay for the bill, I am frustrated that House Democrat leadership chose to abandon this bipartisan work and proceed without offsetting its proposed $12.7 billion in mandatory spending. In addition, they have airdropped a federal, Washington, DC-based program provision at the 11th hour which pulls nearly $1 billion away from states.

"At a time when Americans are struggling to pay the staggering price of inflation, I could not support RAWA as currently written. However, I remain committed to working with my colleagues across the aisle to find a responsible funding source to further critical conservation efforts that preserve our wildlife and outdoors for future generations of Americans."
