Hudson Releases Statement on Russian Oil Ban: "Unleash American Energy"
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (R-NC) is calling on President Joe Biden to unleash American energy production following the President's announcement of a ban on Russian oil. As a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, Rep. Hudson has repeatedly called for a Russian ban and last month sponsored the American Energy Independence from Russia Act to boost U.S. energy production.
"I have repeatedly called on President Biden to ban Russian oil imports. I thank the President for finally taking this step and cutting off up to $75 million a day America was giving Vladimir Putin for oil to finance his war on Ukraine," said Rep. Hudson. "Now, President Biden and House Democrats must reverse their anti-American energy policies and pass our American Energy Independence from Russia Act to boost domestic production. With record-setting gas prices, we must unleash American energy once again, not turn to other adversaries like Iran and Venezuela to ease pain felt at the pump."
Rep. Hudson has long called for sanctions on Russia's economy and energy sector as Russia began its military buildup along Ukraine's border. He sponsored the American Energy Independence from Russia Act to immediately approve the Keystone XL pipeline, unleash U.S. LNG exports to boost natural gas production, restart oil and gas leasing on federal lands and waters, and protect energy and mineral development - reversing policies implemented by President Biden in his first days in office so U.S. producers can offset Russian imports of oil. House Democrats blocked consideration of the bill on March 1st.
