Hudson Releases Statement on Proposed Russian Sanctions
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Responding to reports that the Biden Administration plans to sanction Russian officials responsible for the poisoning and political persecution of Alexei Navalny, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08), a member of the U.S. Delegation to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Parliamentary Assembly, released the following statement:
"President Biden is right to pursue sanctions against those who are responsible for targeting Mr. Navalny, his supporters, and other brave citizens who speak out against corruption in Russia.
"As a member of the U.S. Delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, I frequently see how the Kremlin attempts to distract from and deny its violations of human rights and international law. I am encouraged President Biden appears to be working with our European partners to impose serious consequences for such reprehensible actions.
"Vladimir Putin must now decide if Russia wants to take its place among countries committed to the principles affirmed in the Helsinki Final Act or continue down the path of aggression, human rights abuses, and isolation."
