Hudson Releases Statement on Proposed Afghanistan Troop Withdrawal

April 13, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08), Fort Bragg's Congressman, released the following statement on President Biden's proposed Afghanistan troop withdrawal announcement:

"President Biden's decision to set an arbitrary, political deadline to withdraw troops from Afghanistan threatens stability in the region and is an insult to the men and women who gave their lives there. This is the same defeatist foreign policy that we saw from the Obama-Biden Administration when withdrawing from Iraq which led to the ISIS caliphate. President Biden returning to this same playbook and ignoring conditions on the ground is a mistake," said Rep. Hudson.

"Furthermore, the Taliban has already acted in bad faith so surrendering Afghanistan to them without maintaining a presence to address remaining threats or hold local leaders accountable undermines the success and sacrifice of our soldiers. I hope President Biden will listen to our commanders on the ground and the U.S. intelligence community which warn of the threats associated with a premature troop withdrawal."
