November 1, 2021
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) released the following statement on the passage of the Lumbee Recognition Act:
"The Lumbee have fought for federal recognition for generations, and passage of this bill is long overdue," said Rep. Hudson. "I am proud to have worked with my colleagues from both sides of the aisle to once again help secure its passage in the House. I will continue to work with Representatives Butterfield, Bishop and Price to advance this bill until it becomes law."
Rep. Hudson introduced H.R. 2758 to grant the Lumbee Tribe full federal recognition along with Reps. Butterfield, Bishop and Price. Identical legislation passed the U.S. House last year, but was not approved by the U.S. Senate.
