Hudson Releases Statement on ATF Nominee David Chipman

May 26, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) released the following statement on today's hearing of David Chipman to serve as Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms in the Senate Judiciary Committee:

"Biden nominee David Chipman wants to ban 'assault weapons' but can't even define what they are. Even worse, he wants to ban the most popular gun in America and all rifles with a removable magazine above a .22 used by hunters and shooters everyday. His nomination is an extreme attack on our Second Amendment," said Rep. Hudson.

"Instead of extremists like David Chipman restricting rights from law-abiding citizens, today's tragic shooting in California underscores the need for common-sense folks on both sides of the aisle to work together to address the actual causes of gun violence - mental health, intervention and keeping guns out of the hands of criminals by enforcing current law."
