Hudson, NC Delegation Advocate North Carolina for Health Agency Headquarters

July 14, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Richard Hudson (R-NC), along with other Members of the North Carolina Congressional Delegation, sent a letter today to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra expressing support for the new Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) and urging the Department to consider locating the future headquarters in North Carolina.

"As a leader in the biotechnology and life science industry, and home to world-class educational and research institutions, our state is uniquely positioned to serve as the ideal location for the agency’s future headquarters," the Members write.

"Our thriving economy, strategic location in the southeastern United States, and low cost of living are attracting and retaining the world’s best and brightest. With an unmatched business environment, North Carolina offers a full complement of clinical, STEM, biotech, and business training programs to prepare for a workforce skilled in cutting edge research, academia, health care and digital health for both public and private sectors."

As a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, Rep. Hudson has worked to advance ARPA-H as a new innovative agency that will build on the success of Operation Warp Speed and utilize public private partnerships to develop breakthrough medical research. In May, legislation to authorize ARPA-H advanced(link is external) through the Energy and Commerce Committee, with Congressman Hudson’s support.
