Hudson, Members Call on President Biden to Postpone Meeting with Vladimir Putin
June 14, 2021
"Summit sends the wrong message at this time"
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ahead of a scheduled summit between President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin this week, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) is calling on the President to postpone the meeting following a string of cyberattacks originating in Russia. Rep. Hudson co-led a letter to President Biden with Rep. Jim Banks (IN-03), along with 10 other Members of the House of Representatives.
"Dialogue between our countries is important. However, a summit sends the wrong message at this time," the Members write. "The barrage of cyberattacks from Russia must end immediately and together we can send a strong message to Russia, and the world, that the United States will not be intimidated when we are tested."

Rep. Hudson has stated that a summit between Presidents Biden and Putin, in addition to President Biden giving a green-light to Russia's Nord Stream II pipeline, send the wrong message following cyberattacks on the Colonial Pipeline and JBS. Rep. Hudson, who is a chairman of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe's (OSCE) Parliamentary Assembly First Committee, called on Putin to do more to stop the cyberattacks and not harbor those responsible.
After President Biden gave a green-light to Nord Stream II, Rep. Hudson introduced H.Res. 426, cosponsored by 22 Members, to oppose the pipeline that will jeopardize European nations. Today's letter to President Biden builds on that action.
Joining Reps. Hudson and Banks on the letter were Representatives Madison Cawthorn, Greg Murphy, James Baird, Mike Johnson, Victoria Spartz, Brian Babin, Andrew Clyde, Ann Wagner, Markwayne Mullin, and Andy Harris.
