Hudson Maintains Commitment to Troops, Families and Veterans Through Annual Defense Bill
December 28, 2020
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08), Fort Bragg's Congressman and a voice for veterans, released the following statement after voting today to approve the FY 21 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) Conference Report in the U.S. House of Representatives:
"As Fort Bragg's Congressman, it is my responsibility to ensure our troops, their families and our veterans have the support they deserve. That is why I voted to approve the NDAA, which contains provisions I fought for including pay raises and PPE for troops, overdue improvements for military housing and education, mental health care reforms, and expanded VA access for veterans exposed to toxic burn pits. This bill also contains measures to counter China and defend our country against cyber attacks like those launched this year by Russia," said Rep. Hudson. "Furthermore, without this bill, troops would lose hazard duty pay over the holidays. As was the case last New Year's Eve when soldiers of the 82nd Airborne got a call to deploy to the Middle East within 24 hours, we expect our troops to be ready at any moment to defend our country. This bill fulfills our commitment to support them in that mission and protect our overall national security."
"I believe President Donald Trump is right that it is critical we reign in social media companies who hide behind Section 230," Rep. Hudson continued. "I have focused on this shared goal in the Energy and Commerce Committee and will continue working to make sure we enact needed reforms to Section 230."
In July, Rep. Hudson secured six provisions in the FY 21 NDAA. They include:
- 10% pay increase in hazard duty pay.
- Expanded access for Special Operations' POTFF program and improvements to retain employees for the program.
- Report to strengthen Impact Aid education funding.
- Improved access to Exceptional Family Member Program for special needs military families.
- Expanded access to the VA for veterans exposed to toxic burn pits.
These provisions are detailed here.
