Hudson Joins Bipartisan Call for President Biden to Re-Freeze Funds Released to Iran
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-09) joined 100 members of the House of Representatives in sending a bipartisan letter to President Biden urging him to take specific actions that would prevent Iran from accessing billions of dollars to further subsidize the horrific Hamas terrorist attacks against Israel.
“It is critical that the Biden administration takes immediate action to prevent Iran from accessing, and making available, tens of billions of dollars to further subsidize terrorism,” said Rep. Hudson. “My colleagues and I expect formal freezing mechanisms to be put in place immediately.”
In the letter, the members expressed concerns over the Iranian regime's continued support for terrorist groups, including Hamas, and their attempts to wipe Israel off the map.
In part, the members wrote, "Your administration recently released $6 billion in frozen funds to Iran in return for American hostages. Our concern—a concern that has grown more acute in light of Iran’s support for a terrorist war against Israel that already amounts to the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust—is that the Iranian regime will use all available financial tools to further fuel this war against Israel, fund other terrorist proxies in the region such as Hezbollah who export Iran’s genocidal terrorism, and accelerate Iran’s nuclear build up. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi put it plainly that the funds would be used “wherever we need it.”
