Hudson Issues Statement on Right to Carry Ruling

March 25, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08), the author of H.R. 38, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, released the following statement on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit ruling limiting the right to carry a firearm issued on Wednesday, March 24:

"This outrageous ruling directly contradicts the Second Amendment which, as Judge O'Scannlain highlighted in his dissent - 'protects the ordinary, law-aiding citizen's right to carry a handgun openly for purposes of self-defense outside the home,'" said Rep. Hudson. "As Washington Democrats are politicizing recent tragedies to push gun control legislation which harm law-abiding citizens and would have done nothing to prevent previous mass shootings, unelected judges are attacking our Second Amendment. I look forward to this ruling being appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court and I will continue to defend our rights, as well as pursue common sense solutions to address gun violence without infringing on the Second Amendment."

Rep. Hudson joins Fox News to discuss gun control legislation

Earlier this month, Rep. Hudson introduced gun safety legislation and led efforts to oppose H.R. 8 and H.R. 1446, gun control legislation passed by the House on March 11. Rep. Hudson joined Fox News(link is external) to discuss how these bills could turn law-abiding citizens into criminals for helping a friend or neighbor and allow a government bureaucrat to delay a sale of a firearm indefinitely.

Instead of H.R. 8 and H.R. 1446, Rep. Hudson introduced legislation to double funding for school safety and championed other measures to support mental health, expand information sharing and address root causes of gun violence. Read more on those bills here.
