Hudson Invites SFC Richard Stayskal to State of the Union
WASHINGTON, D.C. –Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08), the representative of Fort Bragg and a voice for North Carolina’s veterans and their families, announced he is bringing SFC Richard Stayskal, a Moore County constituent who successfully advocated for reforms to military malpractice, as his guest to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address.
“The bipartisan reforms we got in the NDAA wouldn’t have been possible without Rich,” said Rep. Hudson. “I’m honored to have him as my guest to President Trump’s State of the Union to highlight this historic story of bipartisanship and, of course, SFC Stayskal stepping up to fight for what's right for all of America's men and women in uniform and their families.”

Rep. Hudson and SFC Stayskal
Earlier this year, Rep. Hudson introduced the bipartisan Sergeant First Class Richard Stayskal Military Medical Accountability Act of 2019. The Fiscal Year 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which was signed into law in December, included a bipartisan provision he helped secure based on this legislation to allow service members to seek compensation for medical malpractice unrelated to their military duties and caused by a Department of Defense health care provider.
For the first time since 1950, U.S. military personnel have legal recourse to seek payment from the military in cases of medical malpractice. Learn more here.
