Hudson Honors Special Forces 70th Anniversary

June 17, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (R-NC), Fort Bragg’s Congressman and the co-chair of the House Special Operations Forces Caucus, has introduced a bipartisan resolution recognizing the 70th anniversary of the founding of the United States Army Special Forces and honoring the 'Father of the Special Forces,' Colonel Aaron Bank.

"Since their establishment in 1952, Green Berets at Fort Bragg and across the globe have gone above and beyond the call of duty to defend the United States in combat theaters worldwide," said Rep. Hudson. "I hope all Americans will join me in celebrating the Special Forces 70th anniversary and thanking heroes like Col. Aaron Bank for giving more to this country than could ever be repaid and perhaps, could ever be measured."

After World War II, it was clear there was a need for highly trained unconventional forces. Col. Aaron Bank, a World War II veteran, began working to convince the U.S. Army to adopt a permanent unconventional warfare force. After tireless efforts, the U.S. Army launched its first Special Forces unit, the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), at Fort Bragg, North Carolina on June 19, 1952. Col. Bank served as its first commander.

Rep. Hudson’s legislation, H.Con.Res.95, is cosponsored by 9 Members of Congress. In addition to sponsoring the bill, Rep. Hudson recognized the Special Forces anniversary with remarks entered into the official Congressional Record.
