Hudson Holds Pro-Second Amendment Press Conference with Women for Gun Rights
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (R-NC) hosted a press conference outside the Capitol Building with Women for Gun Rights, a nationwide organization of women committed to safeguarding the Second Amendment, and discussed upcoming gun rights legislation.
“When I was sworn into Congress, I pledged to support and defend the Constitution of the United States—including the Second Amendment,” said Rep. Hudson. “Over the last two years, the Biden administration has perpetrated an all-out assault on the Second Amendment. The bureaucrats at the ATF have sought to criminalize law-abiding citizens, they have targeted businesses that sell firearms, they have targeted regular Americans. That’s why I believe it is more important than ever that we protect that right from Washington Democrats who want to punish responsible gun owners and take away those rights. I am proud to stand with Women for Gun Rights and others working to defend our Second Amendment.”
During today’s press conference, Rep. Hudson emphasized the need for Congress to step up in defense of the Second Amendment in light of the multiple attempts made by the Biden administration to strip law-abiding citizens of their constitutional right to bear arms. Following Rep. Hudson’s remarks, multiple members of Women for Gun Rights spoke and shared personal testimonies of how the right to bear arms saved their lives. These testimonies ranged from defending themselves in a home invasion, how a young boy could’ve saved his own life if he had a gun, and even a student explaining her lack of defense from a school shooter.
“Women for Gun Rights is proud to stand with Congressman Hudson and other members that work to protect the rights of citizens to be able to protect themselves,” said Dianna Muller, Founder, Women for Gun Rights (DC Project). “Witnessing the horror of citizens being murdered in their homes in Israel has really shed light on the importance of our 2nd Amendment and highlighted why we feel safer being armed."
Multiple members of Congress joined today’s press conference to speak and show their support, including Reps. Eric Burlinson (R-MO), Kat Cammack (R-FL), and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).
“The Second Amendment is clear: shall not be infringed. I was glad to stand with my colleagues and advocates for women’s rights to keep and bear arms,” said Rep. Kat Cammack (FL-03). “Thank you to Congressman Hudson and the advocates who traveled to the Capitol today to share their support for this fundamental right.”
“The best defense for a woman who is or could be a victim of violence is a gun. Under Joe Biden's failed leadership and Democrat-controlled cities and states, Americans are unsafe,” said Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA-14). “Self-defense through personal firearm ownership is an invaluable tool in safeguarding our well-being. I was honored to join Rep. Hudson for the Women for Gun Rights press conference earlier today.”
Rep. Hudson's leadership in defending the Second Amendment in the 118th Congress includes:
- In March, Rep. Hudson co-sponsored the No REGISTRY Act which would prevent the federal government from building a federal firearms registry.
- In June, H.J. Res. 44, a resolution Rep. Hudson and Andrew Clyde (GA-09) introduced to prevent the Biden administration’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) from enforcing an unconstitutional pistol brace ban passed out of the House.
- In August, Rep. Hudson joined Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) in introducing a House Resolution condemning New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham for her “emergency public health order” prohibiting the open and concealed carry of firearms in Albuquerque and its surrounding county.
- Earlier this month, H.R. 5110, the Protecting Hunting Heritage and Education Act was signed into law by President Joe Biden. The bill passed in September with overwhelming bipartisan support in the House, and unanimously passed out of the Senate.
