Hudson Continues to Encourage Atlantic Offshore Energy Development
WASHINGTON, D.C.– Today, U.S. Representatives Richard Hudson (NC-08), Scott Rigell (VA-02) and Jeff Duncan (SC-03), co-Chairmen of the Atlantic Offshore Energy Caucus, sent a letter to Department of Interior Secretary Sally Jewell urging the Department to retain the full area included in the Draft Proposed Program (DPP) for Atlantic lease sale 260.
“For years, there has been broad bipartisan support for oil and gas leasing, exploration and production off of the Atlantic coast,” said Rep. Hudson.“As co-Chairman of the Atlantic Offshore Energy Caucus, I want to reiterate this support and urge the Department to allow our state to seize this incredible opportunity to unleash our natural resources, create jobs and boost our economy. I will continue to be on the front lines of this debate and work to get North Carolina into the energy business.”
While there is broad bipartisan support for oil and gas leasing off of the Atlantic coast, Secretary Jewell has said there is no guarantee the Atlantic lease would remain in the final plan. As the Department of Interior concludes the planning period for the 2017-2022 Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Oil and Gas Leasing Proposed Program, Rep. Hudson and his colleagues are urging them to retain the full area for the Atlantic lease sale 260 included in the Draft Proposed Program (DPP) without further limitations.
Reps. Hudson, Rigell and Duncan serve as co-Chairmen of the Atlantic Offshore Energy Caucus, a committee that works to advance policies that explore and expand energy production in the Atlantic Outer Continental Shelf as part of an all-of-the-above national energy strategy.
