June 16, 2020
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08), a leader in forging bipartisan police reform and equal justice for communities, released the following statement on the Safe Policing for Safe Communities Executive Order signed today by President Donald Trump:
"I thank President Trump for taking action today and providing leadership to achieve justice in our communities and improve law enforcement through measures like increasing information sharing and transparency, focusing on mental health, and reforming use-of-force standards. Congress must now build on this action and work on bipartisan solutions to further improve law enforcement and strengthen our communities," said Rep. Hudson. "As I have outlined in discussion draft legislation, I am committed to working across the aisle on these solutions and finding common ground that provides justice and supports law enforcement."
Last week, Rep. Hudson unveiled discussion draft legislation called the George Floyd JUSTICE Act that outlines bipartisan priorities for police reform and community engagement.
