Hudson Applauds FAA Decision to Keep Airport Control Towers Open
WASHINGTON- Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) commended the FAA on its decision to end employee furloughs and keep 149 local airport control towers open for the remainder of the fiscal year.
“I applaud the FAA’s decision to restore funding to our local airport control towers and cease unnecessary employee furloughs. This is something I have been working on with my colleagues, stakeholders, the local community, Secretary LaHood, and appropriate agencies since day one. I’m pleased to see that Congress and the Administration agree that local control towers have served a vital role in our country’s aviation infrastructure for over 30 years and are integral to the success of local businesses and communities. I speak on behalf of my constituents and all North Carolina travelers when I say this was the necessary outcome for the wellbeing of our local and state economy.”
Concord Regional Airport is the third busiest airport in North Carolina. It was named by the Government Accountability Office as an airport of national significance because it’s a reliever airport for Charlotte Douglas, which is the sixth busiest airport in the world.
