Hudson Applauded for Bipartisan Efforts
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) released the following statement on being awarded the American Ambulance Association’s (AAA) 2017 Legislative Recognition Award(link is external):
“I’m grateful to be recognized by the American Ambulance Association and the EMS community for my bipartisan legislation, the Protecting Patient Access to Emergency Medications Act,” said Rep. Hudson. “I’ll continue to work with my colleagues on bipartisan solutions to support our EMS system and ensure access to high-quality, affordable health care in our communities.”
AAA President Mark Postma said,“Congressman Hudson has been a trusted advocate for health care and emergency medical services, both in North Carolina and across our country.”
Rep. Hudson was presented the award by AAA’s North Carolina Stars of Life, EMS personnel selected for their excellence and dedication: Ryan Lowe, Tiffany Johnson, and Sherri Steele, all of Mecklenburg EMS Agency in Charlotte.
Rep. Hudson serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, a position he uses to advocate for a health care system that puts patients first and improve access to health care for veterans. He introduced H.R.304(link is external) to amend the Controlled Substances Act and ensure patient access to vital emergency medications by preserving EMS standing orders. The bill, co-sponsored by Rep. G. K. Butterfield (NC-01), passed the House on January 9, 2017 with overwhelming support, 404-0.
Last Congress, the Protecting Patient Access to Emergency MedicationsAct was approved(link is external) by the House Energy and Commerce Committee unanimously by voice vote in September 2016. In November 2016, it passed the House(link is external) with unanimous support. To watch Rep. Hudson’s remarks on the House floor in support of this legislation, click here(link is external). His work to advance bipartisan solutions continues to be recognized:
“During his re-election campaign, Hudson touted his conservative credentials but also promised to work in a bipartisan manner. On Congress’ first day back in session, a bill introduced by Hudson and originally co-sponsored by Rep. G. K. Butterfield, D-1, passed the U.S. House. Two other Democrats were also original co-sponsors.” Salisbury Post, Political Notebook: Hudson’s EMS bill passes House on first day back in session(link is external), 11/21/2016
“Hudson, who recently won a third term in Congress from North Carolina’s 8th Congressional District, says he’s eager to find bipartisan solutions in Washington – especially on “common-sense” issues like making sure emergency personnel can help patients. His bill drew a bipartisan group of 130 House co-sponsors and a companion bill in the Senate has Democratic and Republican support.” News & Observer, NC lawmakers, a Republican and Democrat, cooperate to back an emergency services bill(link is external), 11/14/2016
