Hudson Advocates for Improving Roads in Uwharrie National Forest
July 23, 2020
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) spoke on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives today to advocate for improving roads in the Uwharrie National Forest. In his remarks, Rep. Hudson urged his colleagues to support his amendment to the budget to highlight the need to fund construction of roads under the control of the U.S. Forest Service, like those in the Uwharrie National Forest.
"My constituents in the Green Gap community have had to contend with dangerous roads in the Uwharrie National Forest for years while the Forest Service bureaucracy has neglected their maintenance. As someone who has seen firsthand how dangerous these roads are, I can attest to the critical need to pave these roads," said Rep. Hudson. "Working with me, the state of North Carolina has stepped up with financial assistance and agreed to maintain these roads. I'm asking this Congress to also step up to ensure my constituents are not forgotten and they have access to critical lifesaving services they deserve."
Following his remarks, Rep. Hudson's amendment was approved and will be included in the final budget expected to be approved by the U.S. House on Friday, July 24.
