House Passes Hudson Legislation to Deploy Advanced Nuclear Technologies

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Richard Hudson (R-NC) announced that his Advanced Nuclear Deployment Act(H.R. 6526) passed in the U.S. House of Representatives. This legislation was included in a bipartisan nuclear energy package, the Atomic Energy Advancement Act (H.R. 6544), and now heads to the Senate for consideration.

“Increasing domestic production of affordable, safe nuclear energy will lower costs, create jobs, and make us more competitive on a global scale,” said Rep. Hudson. “House passage of this common-sense legislation brings us one step closer to unleashing America's energy independence."

In November 2023, Rep. Hudson and Rep. Kim Schrier, M.D. (D-WA) reintroduced the Advanced Nuclear Deployment Act. The bipartisan legislation will reduce barriers to entry for commercial developers of advanced nuclear reactor technology, provide regulatory certainty, and reduce bureaucratic red tape with applications for ANR development, implementation, and demonstration.  

“Our home state of Washington has long been a leader in clean energy and has set an ambitious goal of completely eliminating carbon emissions from our energy generation portfolio by 2045,”said Rep. Schrier.“This legislation will help us to construct an emissions-free energy resource, advanced nuclear, to go along with wind, solar, and hydropower which we already benefit from. By expanding our nuclear portfolio, in addition to hydroelectric baseload power, we can integrate renewables onto the grid, increase grid reliability, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions while keeping energy bills affordable.”
