The United States should not enter a war with Russia over its invasion of Ukraine but still has options it can employ to support the besieged country and its people, U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson said Thursday.

Hudson, one of Moore County’s two congressional representatives, was in town Thursday following a key vote in the House Wednesday to send billions in aid to Ukraine. Hudson, a Republican, supported the measure.

HAMLET — A congressman hoping to once again represent part of Richmond County paid a visit to a local museum on Friday.

Rep. Richard Hudson, R-Concord, toured the Hamlet Depot and Museum and met with Director Mechelle Presslar and Secretary/Treasurer Angie Averitte, according to social media posts.

The Silver Meteor exhibit in the Tornado Building is dedicated to Riley Watson, Hudson’s great-uncle. Watson was the brother of Hudson’s grandfather.

The legislation will waive export criteria so donations from American ammunition manufacturers can reach Ukraine faster. Twenty seven Members joined Reps. Hudson and Spartz as original cosponsors.

Even though gas prices now surpass $5 a gallon in many areas of the country, $4.13 in North Carolina, leaders from both sides of the aisle agree it’s time to cut off Russian oil. But President Joe Biden and Democrats seem more inclined to replace the nation’s Russian oil supply with oil from Venezuela and other regimes, rather than increase domestic production.

Last week, NASCAR Hall of Fame owner Richard Childress announced his plans to donate one million rounds of ammo to the Ukrainian Armed Forces to help in the ongoing war with Russia. 

Upon seeing that, Congressman Richard Hudson (R-NC) and U.S. Representative Victoria Spartz (R-IN) introduced the American Ammo in Defense of Ukraine Act on Wednesday, which will make donations of ammunition to Ukraine like Childress' possible by waiving current export restrictions.

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) – NASCAR legend Richard Childress has a new ally in trying to get ammunition to Ukrainians fighting the invasion by the Russian army.

Childress last week announced that he had asked Ammo Incorporated, the parent of GunBroker.com, billed as the largest online marketplace for the firearms industry and on whose board he sits, to donate 1 million rounds of ammunition to help the Ukrainians turn back Vladimir Putin’s forces.
