Fort Bragg's congresswoman has introduced an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act that would bar the military from closing a Fort Bragg unit.

Rep. Renee Ellmers introduced the legislation Monday morning. Rep. David Price, who represents Fayetteville, and Reps. Richard Hudson and Mike McIntyre, who also represent the area around Fort Bragg, were co-sponsors, officials said.

Panelists at a Charlotte forum on human trafficking insist the industry is a growing problem in the region.

A conference sponsored by U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson (R-N.C.) brought law enforcement officials and activists to UNC Charlotte, where panelists urged the public not to ignore the signs of trafficking, as it is more prominent in Mecklenburg County than most would expect.

CONCORD, N.C. – Artwork by Cabarrus County students will be brightening up buildings in Washington, D.C. soon.

Mount Pleasant High School junior Jazmin Williams won first place in the 2014 Congressional Art Competition and was recognized along with other winners at a reception hosted by U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson at the Sam Bass Gallery in Concord on Tuesday.

Concord High School senior Shelby Stocton’s piece came in second place. In third place was Destiny Jacobs from Fairmont High School.

U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) hosted a Summit on Human Trafficking at the Harris Alumni Center at UNC Charlotte. This summit focused on ways to reduce human trafficking in our local communities while providing necessary assistance to victims. The summit featured a panel of local activists, including a law enforcement officer, nonprofit groups, a UNC Charlotte professor and a survivor of human trafficking.

DENTON | A South Davidson High School senior was surprised Wednesday morning when a special visitor congratulated him on his personal and community work.

U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson, R-8th, presented Brandon Paul with the Congressional Award Silver and Bronze medals during class. The awards give young people the opportunity to set personal goals and achieve them through four components — public service, personal development, physical fitness and exploration.
