ROCKINGHAM — Two weeks ago, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration quietly rolled out a set of regulations taking aim at the growing e-cig and vape industries after lumping numerous devices and e-liquid products together under a single definition: electronic nicotine delivery systems, or ENDS.

According to the FDA website, “Many ENDS are manufactured to look like conventional cigarettes, cigars, or pipes. Some resemble pens or other everyday items. Larger devices such as tank systems or mods bear little or no resemblance to cigarettes.”

After voting in favor of a package of bills to combat the opiod abuse epidemic, U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson, R-8, said the issue demands a national response.

There’s a total of 18 bills included in the package, ranging from addiction to pain management best practices. On Friday, the U.S. House passed the opiod bills. Now the House and Senate will work out differences before sending the measures to President Barrack Obama’s desk.

After the passage of the package of bills, Hudson said the bills are important steps to end opiod abuse.

Members of Congress are moving forward on attempts to protect the training of Fort Bragg paratroopers, even as Air Force leaders say they are on track to increase their support to Fort Bragg when compared with last year.

Reps. Renee Ellmers and Richard Hudson have filed an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act that would create additional congressional oversight when it comes to airborne operations on Fort Bragg, to ensure the Air Force is providing the promised support.

North Carolina’s Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives have given the Department of Education until Friday to say whether officials will punish the state for its controversial HB2 law by withholding federal funds from public schools and universities.

All 10 GOP representatives from the Tar Heel state signed a letter Monday to U.S. Secretary of Education John King, saying they are “troubled by the threat . . . (to) withhold federal funding from North Carolina in response to the enforcement of House Bill 2.”

The students were honored for their participation in North Carolina’s Eighth District Congressional Art Competition.

Members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee today launched the Pediatric Trauma Caucus.

Reps. Richard Hudson (R-N.C.) and Rep. G.K. Butterfield (D-N.C.) launched the caucus with a briefing featuring Richard Childress, a NASCAR team owner and co-founder of the Childress Institute for Pediatric Trauma. A National Institutes of Health expert is also attending.

U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson this week received the Conservative Achievement Award by the American Conservative Union.

The American Conservative Union was founded in 1964 — making it the oldest conservative lobbying organizations in the U.S. It hosts the popular Conservative Political Action Conference and uses voting records to rank how conservative a politician is. Hudson, for example, received a rank of 95 of 100 for his voting record in 2015. His rating in 2014 was 88 of 100.
