A Republican lawmaker has proposed an amendment to an appropriations bill that would effectively ban Environmental Protection Agency employees from flying around the country on the taxpayer’s dime.

North Carolina Rep. Richard Hudson put forward an amendment barring “funds made available by this Act may be used may be used to pay the costs of any officer or employee of the [EPA] for official travel by airplane.”

As noted by Bloomberg reporter Anthony Adragna, it would basically make it so no EPA employee could fly on an airplane — unless of course they paid for it themselves.

One of Rowan County’s members of Congress cheered a 4-4 tie by U.S. Supreme Court justices this week.

Every generation of Americans has faced their share of challenges. These obstacles may seem impossible at times. I believe we can turn it around. I believe there’s a better way forward.
To get our country back on track, it’s going to take bold, conservative ideas. As conservatives, we know our ideas work. We know our math adds up.

The House took aim at President Obama’s efforts to winnow the population of detainees at Guantanamo on Wednesday, approving a measure that would prohibit him from releasing any of the remaining prisoners at the prison camp.
The measure goes beyond what Republicans have routinely sought to keep the administration from moving Guantanamo detainees to the United States.
Instead, the proposal would prevent the Obama administration from using any funds to release Guantanamo detainees to any destination, even a third-party country — effectively freezin

“The president is so focused on closing Guantanamo that he ignores the danger posed by the terrorists detained there,” said Rep. Richard Hudson (R-N.C.), the sponsor of the amendment.

Efforts to glean input from local veterans prompted Wednesday’s Veterans Advisory Committee meeting in Albemarle.

U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson hosted the meeting at Stanly Commons, part of an effort to hear the concerns of veterans in the 8th Congressional District for which he is seeking re-election.
