Congressman Richard Hudson has opened a local office in Boyd Library at Sandhills Community College.

“It was important for me to have an office here,” Hudson said Monday morning during a ribbon cutting and reception in the Teresa C. Wood Reading Room of the library. “I am committed to this county. … I want to continue to work for you. You may not always agree with me, but you will know where I stand and know that I base my decisions on principals.”

SALISBURY — Rowan County’s congressmen this week joined a group of Republicans calling for a Supreme Court justice to recuse herself from hearing a lawsuit about President Donald Trump’s travel ban.
The letter, signed by more than 50 Republican lawmakers, requests that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg recuse herself from the Trump v. International Refugee Assistant Project case, which focuses on a revised version of the travel ban. Reps.

Last week, the President signed a bill that enables the Department of Veteran Affairs to more easily fire problem employees, and the move drew praise from two of Rowan County’s members of Congress.

On Friday, President Donald Trump signed the “VA Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act.” As its name suggests, the measure provides protections for whistleblowers and gives greater authority to the VA secretary to remove, demote or suspend any employee for poor performance or misconduct.

The U.S. Senate passed a long-awaited reform bill Tuesday that makes it easier to fire employees of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The bill is part of a focus of the Trump administration to make reforming the ailing agency a priority.
“We’re going to make the VA great again and we’re going to do it by firing the corrupt and incompetent VA executives who let our veterans down,” Trump said a month before the election at a rally in front of battleship USS Wisconsin in Norfolk, Virginia.

CONCORD, N.C. (WBTV) - According to a news release from his office, on Monday, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (R-NC-08), member of the Energy and Commerce Committee's Energy Subcommittee, spoke on the House floor in support of a bipartisan bill he introduced with Energy Subcommittee Ranking Member Bobby Rush (D-IL) to improve energy and manufacturing workforce-training programs.

The bill unanimously passed the House.

The life and memory of a legendary Fort Bragg leader will forever be part of the nation’s historical record.

Lt. Gen. Thomas H. Tackaberry — a highly decorated former commander of the 82nd Airborne Division, 18th Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg — was honored last month when Rep. Richard Hudson entered a statement commemorating his life and career into the Congressional Record, the official published account of the U.S. Congress.

The remarks came more than a month after Lt. Gen. Tackaberry, 93, died in Fayetteville.

Rep. Richard Hudson, R-8, said President Donald Trump’s proposed budget is an example of goals he shares with the president.

The budget, unveiled last week, includes large cuts to government spending, projected large growth the American economy and billions of dollars in increased military spending. In Trump’s budget, cuts would include food stamps, Medicaid, highway funding, crop insurance and medical research, the Associated Press reported. The budget includes $1.6 billion for a border wall and a limit on subsidies to farmers.
