An active duty Green Beret based at Fort Bragg was honored Wednesday at the White House with the nation’s highest military honor for valor in combat.

President Donald Trump presented Master Sgt. Matthew Williams with the Medal of Honor, recognizing his efforts to help save his colleagues during a firefight in Afghanistan.

“Matt’s incredible heroism helped ensure that not a single American soldier died in the Battle of Shok Valley,” the president said.

North Carolina congresspeople are trying to bring a failed state immigration proposal back from the dead.

They introduced the Immigration Detainer Enforcement Act this week, which would give states and localities the authority to keep immigrants in custody upon Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s issuance of a detainer and hold them until ICE can assume custody of them.

This bill comes just months after Gov. Roy Cooper vetoed a bill that would have forced local sheriffs to comply with ICE in holding individuals for whom the organization had issued a detainer.

A Fort Bragg Soldier was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Donald Trump Wednesday. Master Sergeant Matthew O. Williams received the Medal of Honor for conspicuous gallantry while serving as a Weapons Sergeant in Support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

On April 6, 2008, while serving as a member of a Special Forces Operational Detachment Alpha 3336, Special Operations Task Force-33, assault element, then-Sergeant Williams exposed himself to insurgent fire multiple times while rescuing other members of the assault element and evacuating numerous casualties.

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — President Donald J. Trump awarded the Medal of Honor to a soldier stationed at Fort Bragg on Wednesday.

Master Sgt. Matthew O. Williams was recognized for his conspicuous gallantry while serving as a weapons sergeant in Support of Operation Enduring Freedom, according to a statement from the White House.

U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson, who represents Fort Bragg, attended the ceremony.

U.S. Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) plans to introduce the Immigration Detainer Enforcement Act this week in Congress.

Sen. Tillis was joined last week in Charlotte, N.C., with U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and U.S. Reps. Dan Bishop (R-NC), Ted Budd (R-NC), and Richard Hudson (R-NC) to announce that they will formally introduce the bill this week in efforts to clarify the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) detainer authority.

The group dined at The Monocle, an eatery often frequented by lawmakers. Photos of famous politicos adorn most of the walls.

Hudson introduces bill to bring oversight to VA’s electronic health records implementation

U.S. Rep.Richard Hudson, R-8, recently introduced legislation to ensure veterans have access to seamless electronic health records across the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Department of Defense (DOD) health systems.

The bill is bipartisan and called the Department of Veterans Affairs Electronic Health Record Advisory Committee Act, H.R. 4693.
