KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (WBTV) - US Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson visited Kannapolis and Concord on Thursday. US Representative Richard Hudson (R-08) hosted the visit.

Dr. Carson was in Kannapolis today for a roundtable discussion with local leaders from Kannapolis, Concord and the surrounding region about affordable housing priorities, Opportunity Zones, and COVID-19 relief efforts underway for housing.

Residents who live near the Chemours plant south of Fayetteville that has been discharging a potential carcinogen into the water supply for years could know by mid-winter of the possible health threat, officials said Tuesday.

The federal Environmental Protection Agency is conducting a scientific study to evaluate the "toxicity" of the GenX compound that has been emitted for years from the Chemours plant, EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler told officials at a roundtable discussion in Fayetteville on Tuesday.

The secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy visited Fort Bragg and Fayetteville Technical Community College on Tuesday to discuss energy issues for the military and Duke Energy's efforts to hire veterans as electrical utility linemen.

Secretary Dan Brouillette joined host U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson during the day for both functions. Hudson helped put together the bipartisan Blue Collar and Green Collar Jobs Development Act, which he supported for energy and manufacturing training.

APEX, N.C. — Vice President Mike Pence and U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos traveled to the Triangle on Wednesday in a push to encourage more K-12 schools to reopen with entirely in-person instruction.

"We've got to get our kids back to school. We've got to get them back this fall," Pence said at Thales Academy. "It's best for our kids. It's best for working families. It's best for North Carolina and best for all of America."

His horrific and tragic killing by a Minneapolis police officer has not only shaken the nation, but has had a direct and personal impact on our own community. George Floyd was our neighbor — he was born right here in Fayetteville and members of his family still live here.

A North Carolina congressman is seeking bipartisan support for a police reform bill he hopes will honor the memory of George Floyd while supporting proper law enforcement efforts.

Rep. Richard Hudson, a Republican who represents the state's 8th District, released a "discussion draft" of what he's calling the George Floyd Justice Act.

Floyd, a Black man who was born in Fayetteville, died after being pinned to the ground by a white Minneapolis police officer. The death sparked protests across the country.

Truck drivers have started to become concerned about their safety – and the vulnerability of their cargo – throughout the coronavirus pandemic and recent protests, renewing calls among Second Amendment proponents to allow them to carry licensed firearms.

Due to these recent challenges, legislation introduced in 2019 by North Carolina Republican Rep. Richard Hudson, known as The Concealed Carry Act, is getting renewed attention from the industry.

A bill introduced to Congress in April could benefit military families, including those with special needs, one of the bill's cosponsors said.

House Resolution 6489 was introduced to the House on April 10 and referred to the House Committee on Armed Services the same day to "improve military family readiness."

If approved, it would be part of the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2021.

CONCORD, N.C. (WBTV) - According to a press release from Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08), 100,000 face masks have been obtained for the 8th District to help respond to COVID-19.

In partnership with Lowe's Home Improvement, Rep. Hudson designated Cabarrus Health Alliance in Kannapolis and Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville to each receive 50,000 masks. Masks were provided by Lowe's and began being delivered yesterday.

The ratings are designed to reflect how well lawmakers adhere to conservative principles.
In the 2019 session, eight members of the North Carolina congressional delegation received awards for earning scores of 80% or higher from ACUF:
